6th of October City reopens roads beneath five West Nile monorail stations in both directions
The 6th of October City Development Authority announced on Wednesday 4 November 2026 that roads have been reopened in both directions beneath five West Nile monorail station areas — in front of Ahram Canadian University, at Cityscape, at El-Hosary, in front of the Engineers Syndicate Club and at Mall of Egypt station — to ease traffic ahead of the monorail's planned opening.

The five places where roads reopened
According to the authority, the reopened stretches are: in front of Ahram Canadian University; at the Cityscape area; at El-Hosary; in front of the Engineers Syndicate Club; and at Mall of Egypt station. The work was carried out under the supervision of Eng. Ahmed Nawar, the authority’s roads director, and on the instructions of Eng. Nader Zaafar, head of the 6th of October City Development Authority, and Eng. Rady Khalil, his deputy for roads. The stated aim is to ease movement for residents, improve traffic flow on the city’s vital corridors, and make better use of the road network as the monorail approaches operation.
Why the roads matter before the monorail opens
The West Nile monorail runs on an elevated guideway, so the roads beneath its stations carry the city’s everyday traffic while the line itself is still being finished. Reopening both directions beneath the stations removes the bottlenecks that construction had created at five of the busiest points in the city — around a university, a major mall, a well-known square and a club — rather than waiting until the trains start running. The authority frames the step as part of a wider effort to raise the efficiency of the city’s main corridors and to keep traffic moving during the final preparations for the line.
Where the monorail line stands
The West Nile monorail is planned to run about 43.8 kilometres with 13 stations, from New October City to Wadi El-Nile in Mohandessin, where it will connect with Metro Line 3. Its first phase covers eight stations, from New October to the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, and full passenger service is targeted for 2027. What the authority’s announcement does not give is a date for the monorail’s opening or any change to the line’s timetable, so this article states neither: the news today is the roads, not the trains.
