The Egyptian Exchange's benchmark EGX30 closed Thursday 5 November 2026 at 51,152.73 points, up 0.99%, its third straight daily gain and its first close above 51,000, as foreign investors were the session's only net buyers and market value rose by EGP 61.2 billion.

A broad advance, led by smaller stocks

The gains were spread across the board. The EGX70 equal-weight index of smaller and mid-sized companies led the way, rising 2.42% to 17,567.23 points, while the broader EGX100 equal-weight index climbed 1.96% to 23,461.29. The EGX30 capped index added 0.95% to 63,219.99, and the Shariah-compliant EGX33 rose 0.92% to 6,110.64. Of the shares traded, 185 rose, 44 fell and 6 were unchanged.

Foreign buyers carried the session

Total trading value reached about EGP 10.1 billion across 286,618 trades. Foreign investors were the session’s only net buyers, with net purchases of EGP 222.5 million, while Egyptian investors sold a net EGP 193.5 million and Arab investors sold a net EGP 29.1 million. Foreign buying has driven the rally all week: Wednesday’s session, which first carried the EGX30 above 50,000, was also powered by strong foreign inflows.

Real estate led the gainers

Property shares set the pace. Palm Hills Developments rose 5.7% to EGP 11.91, Heliopolis Housing gained 5.0% to EGP 6.94, and Raya Holding added 2.8% to EGP 5.60. On the other side, food maker Edita fell 3.0% to EGP 18.81, Qalaa Holdings slipped 1.8% to EGP 5.88, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt eased 1.0% to EGP 49.01.

A strong week after a weak October

Thursday’s close capped a strong week for the market. Over the week the total value of listed shares rose by about EGP 153 billion, from EGP 3.897 trillion at Sunday’s close to EGP 4.050 trillion. The rally follows a difficult October, when the EGX30 fell 4.43% to 49.6k points, its second straight monthly loss. The week also brought Banque du Caire’s debut on the exchange on Monday 2 November: the state-owned lender closed its first day 0.19% above its offer price, after the sale of a 45% stake raised EGP 36.37 billion.

Satellite radar reveals a 2,600-year-old mudbrick complex buried beneath Buto in the Nile Delta

Egyptian researchers using Sentinel-1 satellite radar and electrical resistivity tomography have mapped a large Saite-period mudbrick structure, about 20 by 25 metres, buried 3 to 6 metres beneath Kom C at Buto (Tell el-Fara'in) in the northwestern Nile Delta, built on a deliberately laid bed of clean sand.
